Car smashes into Cambridge shop - three detained for theft from vehicle

Trinity Street now reopened after vehicle removed from shop front

Three people were detained by police for theft from a vehicle that crashed into Comptoir Des Cotonniers shop front on Trinity Street in Cambridge this morning.

The driver of the vehicle also fled the scene and a woman passenger suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke’s hospital.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said: “We were called at 4.17am this morning (Tuesday) with reports that a black Mazda CX-5 had driven into Comptoir Des Cotonniers in Trinity Street, Cambridge.

“A woman, believed to be a passenger in the car, suffered minor injuries to her face and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. The driver fled the scene and remains to be outstanding at this time. Three people were detained for theft from the vehicle.”

However nobody was booked into custody. Trinity Street was closed for a short period while the vehicle was recovered. The shop remains structually sound.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 30 of today (November 28).
