A Cambridge man got an unwanted present on his 71st birthday when a car hurtled off the road and through his garden wall.

Colin Reynolds was enjoying his special day on Friday (July 27) when the vehicle smashed through his garden wall in Belmore Close, Cambridge.

Luckily, no-one was injured in the incident and there was no damage to the house itself.

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “We were called at 2.12pm to reports of a car having driven through a garden wall in Belmore Close.”

Mr Reynolds, who has lived in the house since the 1970s, heard the squeal of brakes but didn’t see anything until the incident had ended.

He said: “The main thing is that nobody got injured, everything else can be sorted.”
