Carter Jonas and COEL bowled over by support for upcoming charity cricket match at Fenners in Cambridge
Tickets could soon sell out for a charity cricket match in Cambridge that will raise tens of thousands of pounds for good causes.
Carter Jonas and COEL will come face to face on Thursday, 10 July, for the third time to battle it out at Fenner’s cricket ground.
It will benefit four causes – The Phoenix Trust, LandAid, Tom’s Trust and Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital – through sponsorship, ticket sales and a silent auction, which is hosted on the Carter Jonas website.
The annual sporting event has gained momentum, with the first year raising £14,500 and 500 people. This year, more than £26,000 has been raised from sponsorship alone and tickets are shifting fast.
The Gonville Hotel has donated lots for the auction and will host a ticketed post-cricket event for the sponsors, with proceeds adding to the funds raised.
Cantab Catering and Brewboard are providing catering and drinks on the day and will boost the funds by donating 10 per cent of their turnover on the day. Ex-England cricketer Chris Broad is the guest speaker and it has been rumoured that he will bowl an over to the highest auction bidder.
To thank supporters, the event team hosted a pre-cricket party at the Carter Jonas offices in Station Square, Cambridge.
Guests included the four charities, sponsors, silent auction donors, cricket team players and other supporters.
Carter Jonas and COEL said: “Showing gratitude for the support we have received from the Cambridge community is important to both Carter Jonas and COEL.
“We have been humbled by the help and encouragement we have received since we first pitched the idea of hosting a charity cricket day in 2023 to what has now become firmly established in our calendars as a key summer event.
“It has become a day which not only raises awareness and charitable funds but, also raises spirits and hosting a pre-cricket party to thank people in advance set the tone perfectly.
“We look forward to greeting all at Fenner’s on 10 July.”
Carter Jonas won the first year, with COEL triumphing last year and so it is all to play for in 2025.
