Chaos on the M11: Three crashes in a couple of hours lead to lengthy delays

Motorists have been caught up in lengthy delays on the M11 this evening (Wednesday November 20) after three crashes in the space of a few hours.

The latest occurred on the southbound carriageway between junction 10 for Duxford / the A505 and junction 9 for Saffron Walden and involved three cars, at about 6pm.

A detour was put in place via the entry and exit slip roads.

Traffic was already very slow in the area following a collision involving five vehicles on the southbound carriageway.

Police were called at 4pm to the crash between junctions 9 for Saffron Walden and 8 for Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted, originally thought to involve up to seven vehicles.

Traffic was stopped southbound while the vehicles were cleared, leading to delays up to junction 10 at Duxford. No-one was seriously injured.

Meanwhile, a two-vehicle crash led to delays on the northbound carriageway.

By 4.30pm, both vehicles have since been cleared to the hard shoulder.

Highways England warned there were delays in the evening rush hour in both directions.
