Charities can now apply to be Chariots of Fire race beneficiary in 2020

Charities wishing to be the official recipient for next year’s Chariots of Fire relay race in Cambridge should get their applications in by January 14.

Over the course of its 28-year history, the charitable relay race has raised more than £1.25million for a variety of worthwhile local charities, with tens of thousands of pounds being raised each year.

It is hoped that the race next year, expected to take place on Sunday, September 20, 2020 will continue the tradition of raising significant amounts of money for the official recipient charity.

To apply, charities can download an application form via https://www.chariots-of-fire.co.uk/charity.

The deadline for charity applications is Tuesday 14th January 2020 at 5pm and the selected official recipient charity will be formally announced in April.

An established event in the city’s event calendar, Chariots of Fire, organised by Hewitsons Charitable Trust, the charitable arm of law firm Hewitsons LLP, has over the years supported a wide variety of worthy causes and charities. All funds currently being raised following the 2019 race in September are in support of Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust for a new specialist children’s ambulance service, dedicated to providing the highest level of care for the region’s sickest children.

If anyone would like to contribute and help ACT raise their target of £108,000 please visit their Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/chariots2019 and donate by December 20, 2019.

Over the years, in addition to raising valuable funds, each official charity has also benefitted from a genuine legacy benefit from the exposure Chariots of Fire provides them.

Race Director, Charles Hewitson, said: “I have been pleased to witness the benefits provided by Chariots to the selected charity each year. The continued level of support extended to each charity by the Cambridge Community and the generosity of each of the Colleges and our event suppliers is further testament to the appeal of Chariots. I would recommend any charities interesting in applying to do so”.

Team entries for the 2020 race open on April 15, 2020. For more information, visit chariots-of-fire.co.uk.
