Police now treating incident as criminal damage to the grave

Police conducted a night vigil at a Cambridgeshire church after a child’s grave was found to have been tampered with.

However, following investigations into the incident at a church in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire police are now treating it as a case of criminal damage.

Officers spent most of the early hours of January 5 parked close to All Saints Church in the village High Street after receiving reports from the public that a child’s grave had been ‘disturbed’.

But following investigations by a CSI team, a spokesperson for the force said: “Following investigations, we are confident that a body has not been removed from the grave.

“The police cordon has been taken down and we are now investigating the incident as criminal damage to the grave.”

The family of the deceased have been informed.
