Chop shop with stolen vehicles worth £300,000 uncovered in Madingley

A high-value chop shop containing stolen vehicles worth more than £300,000 was uncovered by rural officers following a tip-off in the early hours of the morning.

At around 3am on Monday, 29 September, Cambridgeshire police received a call from a member of the public whose vehicle had been stolen from London the previous day.

The car’s tracking system indicated the vehicle was near a farm in Madingley.

Officers traced it to an industrial unit on St Neots Road, Madingley, where they discovered the BMW alongside nine additional stolen vehicles including a Porsche Taycan, Range Rover and several BMWs.

The vehicles had been taken from locations across London, Essex and Scotland.

Inside the unit, officers found a professional jamming device - a sophisticated piece of equipment used to block tracking signals and in-car SIM cards that is designed to prevent recovery.

SgtTom Nuttall, from the rural crime action team, said: “This was clearly a highly organised, sophisticated operation, equipped with advanced technology to obstruct our efforts, and utilising a farm to hide their operation.

“Thanks to our enhanced tracking systems, we were able to bypass the jamming devices and recover the stolen vehicles.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and we remain committed to tackling serious vehicle theft and organised crime within our communities.”
