Cambridge could get a city-wide clean-up later this year as part of a community programme being planned by the city council.

The Community Clean-Up Days will start in September with events bringing together residents, volunteers and community groups to work with the council to improve their local environment.

The events will be held in different wards and give people the chance to recycle and dispose of unwanted household items and learn more about how they can do their bit to create a cleaner, greener Cambridge, the council said.

Cllr Katie Thornburrow, executive councillor for streets and open spaces, said: “We want to offer people an alternative way to recycle and dispose of unwanted household items and these events are a great opportunity for local residents to get involved to tidy up their local area.

“I would encourage anyone who thinks that their area would benefit from a Community Clean-Up Day to get in contact with our streets and open spaces community engagement team as soon as possible.”
