Traffic chaos on A14 yet again after car breaks down in fast lane

Commuters were left battling through traffic chaos on the A14 near Histon this morning after a car broke down in the fast lane.

The stricken vehicle was a potential hazard to other road users and Highways England responded by placing two lorries, complete with flashing arrows, directing motorists into the one remaining near side lane.

But the chaos fuelled tailbacks for miles and left motorists frustrated and delayed just days after commuters trying to get to work in the city along the A14 or A10 were faced with up to three miles of queues.

That snarl up tipped over the entire traffic system around the city and was traced to one set of traffic lights on the Milton Road junction with King’s Hedges Road.

They were placed there by Cambridge Water overnight to deal with a leak.
