Concern for motorists stuck on A1 amid sweltering heat after crash between car and two lorries

LEARN MOREDrivers were stuck on the A1 for hours in sweltering conditions after a collision between a car and two lorries.
Welfare checks were carried out by the police and Highways Agency and bottled water was supplied amid concern for motorists.
The emergency services were called at 7.30am today (Friday Augusrt 7) following the crash on the A1 northbound near the Brampton Hut interchange, which left one lorry on its side.
Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene and the northbound carriageway was blocked.
One driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being released by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment.
The car driver was uninjured.
During the closure, a police spokesperson said: “We want to assure the public we are doing all we can to clear the road and get people moving.”
The northbound carriageway was closed from the A428 at Wyboston to the A14 at Brampton Hut.
Drivers were being diverted onto the A428 and then to the A1198 before joining the A14 to continue their journeys.
Fire crews from St Neots, Huntingdon and Kimbolton were called to the crash.
The road was reopened by 4.30pm.
