Construction begins on Cambridge’s first indoor skatepark as Cam Skate seeks extra funding

To complete the project and achieve its target of opening on Sunday, 29 September, Cam Skate needs additional financial support.

Paul Elbro, of Cam Skate, said: “Cam Skate is very grateful to Cambridge City Council’s Active Lifestyles team for helping us to secure £45,000 of Section 106 funding to build ramps and obstacles.

“We’re now looking for more money to fully fund the skatepark’s construction, infrastructure and operation.”

Cam Skate hopes to raise £15,000 from membership sales, business sponsorship, and donations to pay for materials and the construction of ramps, obstacles, barriers for spectator areas, and other infrastructure; skateboards and safety equipment; the training of volunteers in first aid and safeguarding; and utility bills and insurance costs.

Paul adds: “Cam Skate would like to thank Railpen and their associates, Tees Law, Living Sport, and the many volunteers from the skateboarding community in Cambridge for getting us to this milestone.”

The opening event is due to run from 12-6pm on Sunday, 29 September.
