Coronavirus: New Covid-19 mobile testing centre opens in Cambridge
A new mobile testing centre for Covid-19 has opened in Cambridge - but it is for those with appointments only.
The site at the Abbey Leisure Centre will increase access to testing for those living central Cambridge and those without cars.
Until now, the nearest testing centre has been the Milton Road Park & Ride site, which is a drive-through facility only.
Cambridgeshire County Council said those attending must have an appointment. You can book a test online by calling 119.
The mobile testing unit will form part of the national track and trace system, and has been commissioned nationally by the Department of Health and Social Care.
According to figures published weekly by the county’s public health team, confirmed cases per 100,000 people in Cambridge rose from 43.3 in the week ending October 4, to 90.5 in the week ending October 11.
The number of people testing positive per 100,000 for the whole of England during that same time period rose from 124.5 to 156, according to the same report.
