PC Alex Bond said at the time of the incident: “We believe the victim was involved in a collision but the vehicle didn’t stop at the scene.

“It was dark at the time so the driver may not have known they hit someone.”

The woman, who is in her 40s, was found in a ditch in Beach Road, Cottenham, at just after midnight on Monday, 12 February, after going out for a walk at about 6pm that evening.

Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler said today (Monday): “We would urge anyone who drove along Beach Road, in Cottenham, on the evening of Sunday, 11 February, to get in touch.

“If you have dashcam footage, even if it doesn’t appear to show anything, this could be really helpful in enabling us to pinpoint the time the collision took place. Any information you have, no matter how small, could be crucial to our investigation.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage should tell us about it through the force website quoting incident 513 of 11 February. Anyone without internet access should call 101 quoting the same reference.
