Cyclist who died in collision near Addenbrooke’s confirmed as Cambridge University Hospitals worker after lorry driver arrested
A cyclist who died following a serious collision involving a lorry near Addenbrooke’s Hospital has been confirmed as a member of staff at Cambridge University Hospitals.
The woman, who was in her 20s, was struck by the lorry shortly before 8am yesterday morning (Thursday, October 7).
A spokesperson for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We have confirmed to our staff that a colleague has sadly died following a road traffic collision outside the hospital this morning (Thursday). Our deepest sympathies are with her family, friends and colleagues.”
Emergency services attended the scene and the A1307 was closed at its junction with Fendon Road.
The driver of the lorry, a 27-year-old man from Hertford, Hertfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving. He was taken to Huntingdon Police Station.
Police are appealing for anyone or saw the collision or who may have dashcam footage to get in touch.
