Dan Gleeson impressed by Cambridge City's character
City boss hails spirit
Dan Gleeson has hailed the strength of character of his Cambridge City squad as they battle to end a disappointing run of form.
They are fourth from bottom in the Evo-Stik League Southern, Premier Division, and have lost six and drawn two of their last eight games.
But Gleeson, who inherited a threadbare squad in the summer, saluted the efforts of his players and said: “If you’ve got lads out there that are not interested, not trying, not running around, then you’ve got problems.
“But we’ve got good honest lads. I’ve said that from day one and that’s not changed at all.
“I’ve dug a few of them out at times, but they’ve bounced back and it takes a lot of courage and bravery to do that.
“We’re getting beat, we’re not winning games of football and when you do that it is tough and it is a test of character. But they are passing it with flying colours in terms of the way they respond and the way they go about their play.
“They have been a credit to themselves, they have been fantastic.
“We work hard in training and change things week in, week out to play against different teams and different formations. We go and watch games and we all work hard, the players and the staff.
“It does hurt, of course it does. No-one likes to lose, but if we keep responding the way we are we will win games of football – there is no two ways about it.”
