Date confirmed for Bridge the Gap charity walk through University of Cambridge colleges
Plans are under way for this year’s Bridge the Gap charity walk, which will be held on Sunday, September 11.
The event will see the walk return to its traditional format, with an in-person, family-friendly guided walk through the grounds of some of Cambridge’s historical colleges, starting and finishing at Parker’s Piece.
The annual event began in 2001, with more than 39,000 people taking part.
It has helped to raise more than £600,000 for local charities. The two charity partners are Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill, while The Cambridge Building Society - which has been headline sponsors for the previous 13 years - is currently working with the charities and event partners, including Cambridge City Rotary Club, the Co-op and Cambridge 105, to help plan this year’s event.
The walk was self-guided in 2020 and 2021, attracting more than 2,500 people and helping to raise more than £32,000. Chief executive for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, Sharon Allen, said: “Bridge the Gap has always been a highlight of our year for colleagues, volunteers and supporters. We are so delighted to be planning a return to the traditional and well-loved format for the event.
“Sunday, September 11 will be a great day and we are delighted to be able to provide an opportunity to put a date in the diary and offer something special for loyal supporters of the event and those interested in taking part for the first time.
“The money raised through this event is so crucial in funding our vital services. Our care is available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day and every single person who signs up is supporting our compassionate team to help us to make every moment count for our patients and their families.”
