Where is the new Dinky Doors Art Exchange Beanstalk?
Cambridge’s favourite street artists, Dinky Doors, have released a new creation for the city to enjoy - the world’s dinkiest art exchange beanstalk.
The anonymous creators, who have dotted Cambridge streets with fairy-sized doors, spaceships and even an Octo Spa, are hoping budding artists will be tempted to display their work in the tiny frames hanging from the plant.
The curator of the dinky art gallery is said to be a bird who lives in a hut at the top of the beanstalk and there are ladders between the branches for tiny visitors to get around the artworks.
The beanstalk gallery allows members of the public to display their own miniature masterpieces in its frames. Just carefully open the pictures and pop a new artwork inside.
Dinky Doors said: “Picture the scene. You’re a bird that’s exceptionally fond of “acquiring” shiny objects to display in your personal art gallery. Everyone says that you have a talent for it, but, well, you’re lazy. All that flying around to find the perfect artwork. It can take ages.
“So instead, what if the artwork came to you? What if people willingly donated artwork to your gallery? You could stay at home in your nest and just admire art without any of the hassle.
“The gallery is owned by Merle, a rare dwarf magpie. People used to take the mickey out of them on account of their diminutive size and that they didn't like to steal shiny stuff like all their friends. But now that they have a world famous gallery that exhibits lots of shiny community art that gets voluntarily given to them, people aren't laughing so much.”
Merle is the curator of the world’s first Dinky Art Exchange Beanstalk, which can be found tucked away on St Thomas’s Square in Cherry Hinton. It’s a place where artists can donate their work for all to see. And a place where art lovers can also take art home with them too. But, if you take an artwork, Merle requests you replace it with an artwork of your creation.
