Dozens of Cambridgeshire roads will be closed for 'Etnyre' repairs
A schedule of road closures planned through the rest of May and June has been released.
Work to resurface 42 miles of road in Cambridgeshire starts next week at a cost of £5million.
A machine called the ‘Etnyre’ is being used. It’s the only one in the country and surfaces the entire width of the road in one go, which is why the roads have to be closed completely.
The county council says some roads will need to be closed from 8am until 6pm. Advanced warning signs will be displayed before the work is due to start and diversions will be in place.
Cambridgeshire County Council’s chair of the Highways and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Mathew Shuter, said: “The resurfacing work is part of our commitment to maintaining the county’s roads and will ensure smoother journeys and maintain safety.
“We are reliant on the weather for this type of work, which I appreciate makes it difficult for people to plan ahead, but the new machine will make the whole process faster and much more efficient. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while the work is carried out.”
The council has also confirmed that local residents and businesses will have access “wherever possible”.
Further roads will be resurfaced in the autumn.
The council has said that letters will be delivered to residents and businesses directly affected by the work.
