A drug dealer who cycled around Cambridge with a loaded gun and a knife has been jailed for six years after being caught urinating in the street.

The officer went to speak to him and smelled cannabis, so detained him so he could be searched.

While the office waited for his colleagues to arrive, O’Shaughnessy admitted he was carrying “weed” and something “really bad” and attempted to escape.

The officer chased after him and held him until the others arrived.

Inside his pockets and rucksack, police found a knife, a gun loaded with ammunition, 28 bags of cannabis, 17 bags of cocaine, six bags of ketamine, £930 in cash and a mobile phone.

O’Shaughnessy was sentenced to six years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday March 18, after previously pleading guilty to possession of a knife in a public place, possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition in a public place, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

Det Con Sarah Lloyd, who investigated, said: “This incident shows just how dangerous drugs can be in a community. O’Shaughnessy was carrying a knife and a live and loaded gun while cycling the streets of Cambridge dealing drugs. Use of either of these items could have proven fatal.

“It’s because of this that we will continue to tackle county lines drug dealing in Cambridgeshire and urge anyone who suspects dealing or exploitation to report it to us.”
