Elderly woman dies in Cambridge flat fire




A woman in her 80s has died in a fire at a flat in Cherry Hinton.

The blaze started in a bedroom in a ground floor flat on Mallets Road in Cherry Hinton yesterday morning (Thursday, 13 December).

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 11.07am on Thursday (12 December) two crews from Cambridge and the south roaming fire engine were called to a ground floor flat fire on Mallets Road in Cambridge.

“Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the fire, which had started in a bedroom. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental caused by smoking materials. Sadly, a woman aged in her 80s died at the scene.”
