Elections 2022: Cambridge City Council results

Labour has strengthened its firm grip of Cambridge City Council after voters went to the polls on Thursday (May 5).

We have got all the results below and you can follow the conversation via our live blog.

Vote (56496947)
Vote (56496947)

Labour gained two seats and the Greens gained one seat, with the Liberal Democrats losing three.

Elections were held for 14 of the 42 seats on the city council. Two further seats were elected in Arbury and West Chesterton wards following resignations.

Labour retained control of the city council in last year’s ‘all-up’ election, taking 27 of the 42 seats – one up from 2019. But the 2021 election wasn’t all success with sitting Labour councillors Nicky Massey and Richard Johnson losing their seats to the Greens in Abbey ward. That left Labour with 27 seats, the Lib Dems with 12, the Greens with two and one independent – Sam Davies in Queen Edith’s – going into this election.

Following the latest vote, the new composition of the council is:

  • Labour: 29 (+2)
  • Liberal Democrats: 9 (-3)
  • Green: 3 (+1)
  • Independents: 1 (no change)
