Resident Lucy Seymour says the green space is well used by residents of the King’s Meadow Estate and they don’t want to see it ruined for future generations.

The artwork was handed to the Friends of St Albans Road Recreation Ground at the Meadows Summer Fair on Saturday (June 30). The group also had a stall on the recreation ground, which raised almost £300 towards the purchase of a bench.

Lucy said: “Thank you for everyone who helped with the stalls. It was a fantastic event.”

The group has received support from Lib Dem Rod Cantrill who said, despite being in favour of more council housing, he is “deeply concerned” at plans to build on public green space.

The scheme proposes redeveloping the existing Meadows Community Centre and Buchan Street Neighbourhood Centre site to include new affordable housing, a new centre and improvements to the open space.
