Enjoy stalls, food, parades and more at this year’s Mill Road Winter Fair

A highlight of the festive season, this year’s Mill Road Winter Fair will take place tomorrow (Saturday, December 2) from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

During the event, the street’s community centres, mosques, churches, cafés, pubs and shops will offer a blend of stalls, hot food, mulled wine and festive activities.

Highlights will include the fire engine pull from East Road to Mill Road bridge at 10.30am and the community parade at 12.15pm, led by local schools. This year it will feature dancers from Bodywork Company Dance Studios.

Cambridge 105 will broadcast live from Donkey Common and there will be buskers, circus performers, dancers, a pop-up art gallery, film shows, storytellers and more. The Arco Iris samba band will perform the closing parade at 3.20pm.

The Winter Fair is run entirely by volunteers. Jonathan Goodacre, chair of the organising committee, said: “It’s another wonderful celebration of the Mill Road area.

“I think it’s been going 16 or 17 years, and as before it’s a celebration of the area in terms of the people who work here, the traders and the shops and the restaurants and cafés on Mill Road, and then on top of that we’ve got a fantastic array of stalls – over 100 stalls, from craft to local charities, to food, all sorts of things.”

Jonathan added: “We’ve made an effort this year to have more entertainment, so we’ve got two parades and more children’s events.”
