Enter the Young Photographer, Young Artist or Young Environmentalist competitions with the Rotary Club of Cambridge

Calling all young photographers, artists and environmentalists - the Rotary Club of Cambridge is launching three competitions in partnership with the Cambridge Independent.

In all three, there are multiple age categories, and the winners will go through to area finals, with those victorious there heading to national finals.

Rotarian John Barrett said: “The standard achieved in competitions in previous years has been quite amazing. It is most encouraging to see the creativity of young people who enter.”

The Young Photographer competition is returning, with the theme ‘The beauty of architecture’. Photos should be submitted in digital format and pictures can be taken with any camera, mobile or tablet, with manipulations allowed.

There are categories for those aged under 7, aged 7 to 10, 11 to 13 and 14 to 17.

Campkins Cameras in Cambridge, which is hosting Cambridge Photography Week this week, is providing prizes of equipment and tuition.

The winning images will be printed and displayed at the Cambridge Camera Club annual show and included in its online exhibition.

The Cambridge Independent will once again publish a selection of the best images.

Remarkably, winners of the Cambridge competition have gone on to success at the national finals for four years running.

Last year, the junior age (7 to 10) group winner, Horatio Martin, won his category at the national competition.

Entries are due by January 31, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Young Artist competition, with categories for under-10s, those 11 to 13 and 14 to 17, encourages creativity and is open to all schools, colleges, communities, home-educated children and youth organisations.

Entries should be up to A3 in size and can be in any medium. They must be submitted by February 7, 2023. Small cash prizes are on offer for winners.

The Young Environmentalist competition is open across the three age categories (7 to 10, 11 to 13 and 14 to 17) for individual and group entry, with up to four participants allowed in groups.

It aims to encourage young people to explore, investigate, research and undertake an environmental sustainability project within the theme of ‘biodiversity’.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the best entry in each age group.

Entries must be submitted by February 17, 2023.

Winners of the artist and environmentalist competitions will also be featured in the Cambridge Independent.
