Explosive devices found at Cambridge ice rink building site
A building site in Cambridge has been cordoned off after Second World War handmade explosive devices were found.
The devices were unearthed by workmen at the site of the new ice rink on Newmarket Road around 10.30am today (Wednesday).
The explosive disposal unit have been called and will be carrying out controlled explosions.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “Police were called at 10.30am to Newmarket Road, Cambridge following the discovery of some handmade explosive devices.
“The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) have been called to ensure they are safe and the area has been cleared while this takes place. It is believed they were buried during the Second World War.”
