Charles McCulloch reffed various Cambridge leagues until he was 73

The family of a Cambridge man who died at the scene of a road collision in Barton Mills have paid tribute to him.

Police formerly named the victim as Charles McCulloch, of Seymore Street, Cambridge. 88, who was well known in the area after refereeing in several leagues.

The family said: “Big Charles was an avid follower of football and well known in the Cambridge area, refereeing in several leagues, to the age of 73.

“He was an uncle, great uncle, great great uncle, who will be sadly missed and always be in our hearts. Sheila, Charles, John, William.”

Officers were called at 2.20pm on Saturday, July 22 to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the northbound A11 at the Worlington junction.

Ambulance crews were also in attendance, but Mr McCulloch sadly died at the scene.
