Father pays tribute to 17-year-old Cambridge boy Jesse Nwokejiobi as two more teens are arrested on suspicion of his murder

The father of 17-year-old Cambridge boy Jesse Nwokejiobi has paid tribute to his son as two more teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of his murder.

Officers from Cambridgeshire’s Major Crime Unit arrested the two 16-year-old boys at properties in South London on Friday night.

They were taken into custody in Croydon before being transported to Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning.

It comes after a post mortem examination, carried out on Wednesday (November 23) confirmed Jesse, of Edinburgh Road, who previously attended North Cambridge Academy, died after being stabbed following an attack in the area of Logan’s Meadow in Cambridge on Saturday, November 19.

Following Jesse’s death, a 14-year-old boy was arrested at his home in Cambridge at about 11.30pm that night, while another 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were arrested at their homes in South Cambridgeshire around midnight.

All three were arrested on suspicion of murder and have since been released on bail to return to Thorpe Wood police station in Peterborough on February 20.

Jesse’s father, Henry Nwokejiobi, said: “Jesse was a good son and at home he was very creative and loving.

“He made jokes, cooked a lot and helped with the chores. He was a quick learner and did very well at school. He did really well with his GCSEs and we all hoped he would become a medical doctor.

“I miss him terribly. I will love him forever.”

Superintendent Adam Gallop, head of local policing for the south of Cambridgeshire, told the Cambridge Independent that he believed the answers to the investigation could lie with the young population of Cambridge.

And he revealed earlier this week that an image relating to the case had been sent to police.

“We know there are images being circulated on social media as one has made its way to us,” he said.

“I want to thank those people who have already come forward, and appeal once again to those that knew Jesse, and maybe know something about this terrible crime. Please come forward like others have and help us find answers for Jesse’s family.

“My plea is for people to send us these images which can be easily done online via the Major Incident Public Portal.

“I want to reassure the community that because they may have something on their phone, doesn’t mean they are in trouble, but evidentially it could help our investigation.”

Officers are also interested in seeing any dash-cam footage from those who were in the St Andrews Road area between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday, November 19.

After the three boys were bailed, Supt Gallop said: “I am aware that the update we gave around three individuals being released on bail may have caused some concern.

“There are strict policies in place which only allow us to keep people in police custody for a certain length of time without charging.

“I would like to offer reassurance that we have in excess of 100 people working on this investigation, from a dedicated team within the Major Crime Unit, plus specially trained search officers and an additional 20 investigators from local policing who are assisting with carrying out house-to-house and CCTV inquiries.

“We are working extremely hard to gather evidence and ultimately get justice for a young man who has tragically lost his life.”

Anyone with information is urged to pass it to the Major Crime Unit online via the Major Incident Public Portal. Anyone without internet access should call 101 and quote Operation Helix.
