Festival that’s helping to plant a lifelong love of nature
Saturday (May 19) proved to be a fun-filled day out with something for everyone to enjoy as the Cambridge University Botanic Garden hosted its Festival of Plants.
Set in the garden's 40 acres, the Festival of Plants offered themed guided tours, the chance to meet Cambridge University scientists and plenty of activities for children.
Garden administrator Wendy Godfrey, who organised the festival, said:"We had record numbers for the Festival of Plants - we had over 3,000 visitors during the day, with some lovely comments that people were enjoying the pop-up science marquee and doing some hands-on experiments.
"We had a full itinerary of free tours and lots of talks throughout the day.
"The schools' garden was doing children's activities, such as making spring crowns, and we also had live music, which went down very well - lots of children dancing on the lawn.
"We turned the schools' garden into a sort of garden fete and we did a vegetable tombola."
Wendy added:"Overall we were really, really pleased with the whole day. It was very well received by our visitors."
