Roof fire at Fen Drayton Primary School leaves man with ‘serious burns’




A fire at Fen Drayton Primary School left one man in Addenbrooke’s Hospital being treated for serious burns today (Tuesday, 13 August).

More than 30 firefighters tackled the blaze on the roof of the building on Cootes lane, Fen Drayton. The road was closed but has since reopened.

Fire crews were called out at 8.37am along with an ambulance and three hazardous area response team vehicles. The cause of the fire will be investigated.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 8.37am crews were called out to a building fire on Cootes Lane in Fen Drayton. Over 30 firefighters attended and tackled a fire involving the roof of the building.

“The road has now reopened. However, crews remain at the scene making the area safe. A male casualty was treated for burns by ambulance crews. An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.”

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “One ambulance, three hazardous area response team vehicles and an ambulance officer vehicle were called to a fire at Fen Drayton Primary School this morning. One man with serious burns was transported to Addenbrookes Hospital.”
