Firefirghters warn drivers and pedestrians to stay away from scene of blaze
Firefighters are warning people to stay away from Mill Road this morning as they are still on the scene of a blaze that started in a shop and spread to flats above.
Residents were evacuated yesterday evening but fire crews remain at the site and say it will affect access to the road all day.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service's AC Simon Newton released a video on Twitter. He said: "We are here on Mill Road and have been for most of the night dealing the fire behind us in this building. We have had up to 90 firefighters on the scene working really hard with our partners the police and bulance services and the UK Power Network to keep the building as safe and to contain the fire as much as we can."
He added that crews were likely to be on scene for the rest of the day and that they were asking people to keep clear if possible. Police say there have been no reported injuries
The fire broke out last night (Monday, July 15) and crews were called to a blaze in a ground floor flat, which had spread to the shops above.
More than 90 firefighters have been in attendance at the incident overnight. Crews from Cambridge, Cottenham, Ely, Burwell, Linton, Papworth, St Neots, March, Huntingdon, St Ives, Saffron Walden, Wickhambrook, Bury St Edmunds, and Newmarket have been in attendance.
Police and ambulance services are also in attendance.
Firefighters have been using hose reels and jets to get the fire under control and prevent it spreading further.
