First aiders to patrol Cambridge on New Year’s Eve 2023 as part of Purple Flag partnership

Revellers who need first-aid assistance on New Year’s Eve will be able to seek help from St John Ambulance volunteers, who will be in Cambridge city centre from 10pm to 3am.

Workers in bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs are encouraged to direct party-goers needing medical support to St John Ambulance on December 31 to help reduce pressure on other emergency services.

In the event of a medical emergency, St John Ambulance is able to co-ordinate with local emergency services and provide support until help arrives.

The scheme, funded by the city council, is part of the Cambridge Purple Flag partnership designed to support a safe nighttime economy. It is run by partners Cambridge BID, CAMBAC, Street Pastors, Night Lite, Cambridge City Council and Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

Under the scheme, there are taxi marshals, who help control taxi queues, as well as street pastors and Night Lite, which offers a safe space at Downing Place Reformed Church.
