First pharmacies in Cambridge and Peterborough to offer Covid-19 vaccines announced
The NHS has launched two pharmacy-based vaccination centres in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough as part of the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history.
The centres will be located at the Halls Pharmacy in Orton Wistow, Peterborough and Superdrug in Sidney Street, Cambridge. Patients must have an appointment to get the vaccination at these sites.
These are in addition to the Primary Care or GP-run vaccination hubs and large-scale vaccination centres already in operation across our area including: City Care Centre, Peterborough, Grafton Centre, Cambridge, Oak Tree Centre, Huntingdon, Horsefair Shopping Centre, Wisbech (from today - February 5).
The booking process for the first priority cohorts to receive their vaccinations at any of the large-scale or pharmacy-based vaccination centres is managed by the national booking process.
Letters are being sent out by the national booking service initially to people aged 70 and over and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable who live up to a 45-minute drive from the centres, inviting them to book an appointment either online or over the telephone. Details of how to book are in the letters that residents will receive.
If you are clinically extremely vulnerable, you will previously have received a letter from the NHS or from your GP telling you this. You may have been advised to shield in the past.
Dr Gary Howsam, clinical chair at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “It is vital we ensure that we vaccinate our most vulnerable local residents as soon as possible.
“Locally, we’re vaccinating thousands of patients every day and we remain on track to vaccinate those most at risk by the middle of February.
“Please remember that you can only attend the large-scale or pharmacy vaccination sites if you have an appointment. And, whether you have had the vaccine or not, we all must continue to comply with national guidance to help control the virus and save lives.”
If anyone has already received the vaccine since the letter was sent out or would prefer to attend a GP service, they can simply ignore it.
