Five arrested in connection with Cambridge moped thefts

Five people have been arrested by police in connection with a series of moped thefts in Cambridge this morning (Monday, December 12).

Police carried out three warrants across the city and arrested four teenage boys aged 13, 14, 15 and 17 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft.

A 51-year-old man from Cambridge was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

While carrying out one of the warrants, another man aged 50, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. They all remain in police custody.

Officers recovered suspected stolen mopeds, electric bikes, pedal bikes and vehicle parts and cash during the warrants.

There have been more than 300 mopeds and motorbikes, worth more than £500,000, stolen across the county this year.

Anyone with a moped or motorbike is advised to:

• Lock – use a disc lock to help secure the front brake disc.
• Chain – use a chain lock through the back wheel and where possible secure your bike, with the lock to an immoveable object like a ground anchor or street furniture.
• Cover – Thieves often ‘shop’ for particular models. Using a cover instantly makes it less attractive to them.
