Football fans handed banning orders for offences ahead of Cambridge United FA Cup match
Three football fans have been banned from attending matches after committing offences prior to Cambridge United’s FA Cup game against Luton Town.
Police were patrolling in East Road on the afternoon of February 5 in preparation for the U’s fourth round match at 5.30pm.
They arrested and charged a number of people for public order offences following aggressive and intimidating behaviour towards the Luton fans.
James Morwood, 51, of Gunhild Way, Cambridge pleaded guilty to using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence after throwing a beer bottle towards a Luton fan.
He was given an 18-month community order and must carry out 200 hours unpaid work. He was also given a three-year Football Banning Order (FBO) at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 17.
Andrew Chapman, 42, of Ramsey Road, St Ives, pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence after shouting and swearing at Luton fans and police. At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 17, Chapman was given a five-year FBO.
Andrew Audley, 52, of Selwyn Road, Cambridge pleaded guilty to using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence after squaring up to Luton fans.
He was given a three-year FBO at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 24, and must pay a £333 fine.
The FBO states they must not go into any football matches in the UK and are not allowed in Cambridge city centre when Cambridge United play at home.
Jay Creek, 19, of Cadwin Field, Cambridge pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 17 and was ordered to pay a £140 fine.
Mitchell Tierney, 24, of Apthorpe Way, Cambridge pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence at Cambridge Magistrates’ court on March 10 and was ordered to pay a £250 fine.
Toby Elsom, 23, of Minerva Way, Cambridge, pleaded guilty to using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 17 and was ordered to pay a £500 fine.
Jack Jarvis, 28, of Carter Road, Burwell, pleaded guilty to using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 24 and was ordered to pay a £233 fine.
Cameron Yallop, 18, of Campkin Road, Cambridge, pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on March 24 and was ordered to pay a £160 fine.
Mark Wood, the dedicated football officer for Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said: “There is absolutely no place for this behaviour prior to football matches. The anti-social behaviour of a minority of people tarnishes the reputation of most supporters who just want to turn up and watch the match.”
