Form the Future annual conference looks at preparing young people for a changing workplace
Form the Future’s annual conference promises a packed agenda around a central theme of ‘How to prepare young people for a rapidly-changing world’.
Delegates will hear from speakers on four separate stages during this all-day event on Friday (December 1) at the Moller Institute in Cambridge.
Daniel Zeichner MP will open the event, supported by the Cambridge Independent, and will be followed by a panel discussion which sets the theme for the day. The impressive line-up of speakers includes Richard Owers, of Owers Warwick Architects, Tyler Shores, ThinkLab manager at the University of Cambridge, Richard van Lente, senior property asset and development manager at Railpen, and Miguela Gonzalez, head of diversity and inclusion at Abcam.
Steve Thompson, chief operating officer at Form the Future, said: “We are delighted to welcome our headline panellists who will open this year’s conference and together they will be discussing the changing nature of work, what the jobs of the future will be and how we prepare young people for the workplace.”
Through a mix of headline speakers, seminars, panels and open debate, delegates will explore a range of key issues throughout the day. On the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Careers Hub stage, Dominic Milham of Cambridgeshire Insight will explore the local labour market and help delegates to understand the short and long-term needs of the workforce, including sectoral growth and in demand skills. Laura Zamburlini, Careers & Enterprise Company, will talk about the launch of the employer standards designed to help employers plan and review the quality of their outreach.
The Apprenticeships stage, sponsored by First Intuition, has an impressive line-up of guest speakers covering a range of topics from the impact of apprenticeships to how they are helping to close the skills gap. Delegates will also hear from a panel of apprentices and their mentors. Siobhan Williams, business engagement manager at UCAS, will talk about its new apprenticeships service, where students interested in becoming an apprentice can explore their options, and the opportunity this presents for increasing apprenticeship visibility.
The event will be closed by Dr Nicola Millard, principal innovation partner at BT. Nicola is a presenter, writer and researcher on futures, psychology and innovation in customer and employee experience. Her talk, ‘From Automation to Zedonks – Trends shaping the future world of work’, will give a unique insight into future trends.
Anne Bailey, CEO of Form the Future, said: “We feel privileged to have such an impressive line-up of speakers and experts addressing delegates at our annual conference this year.
“We will bring together educators, businesses and policy makers under one roof and we all have a common goal – to help young people to move successfully from education into employment, providing the talent that our region’s companies need to grow.”
Form the Future’s annual conference will take place between 9am and 6pm on Friday (December 1) at the Moller Institute, Cambridge.
