Former councillor to be sentenced for indecent image charges




A former councillor is due to appear at Cambridge Crown Court after pleading guilty to possessing more than 600 prohibited images of children.

Alan Cox, 46, of Byron Square, Trumpington, Cambridge, had been due to be sentenced at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday, July 28).

However, his sentencing has now been sent to be dealt with at Cambridge Crown Court, which has more sentencing powers.

Mr Cox was elected to represent the Trumpington ward at Cambridge City Council in 2021, but resigned earlier this year. A by-election for the ward is due to take place in August.

Earlier this month, Mr Cox pleaded guilty to three counts of making an indecent photograph / pseudo-photograph of a child.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited image of a child. Court documents state that he was in possession of 664 prohibited images of children.

Mr Cox will appear in Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, September 5 for sentencing.
