In pictures: Inside the spectacular new-look Cambridge pub The Tivoli as it reopens its doors
The fire-ravaged Tivoli pub in Cambridge reopened on Wednesday (May 25) after an extensive refurbishment.
The striking building on Chesterton Road – which began life as a cinema in 1925, before being converted into a pub in the 1950s – boasts two nine-hole indoor mini golf courses on the first floor, two 22ft shuffleboards in the basement, and a roof terrace on the second floor with stunning views over Jesus Green. A top terrace will be used for private hire.
The Tivoli, which had been a JD Wetherspoon pub from 2010 to 2015, was left empty for a number of years following a devastating fire in 2015. Since 2019, significant works have taken place to rebuild and refurbish the iconic building, although unsurprisingly the process was delayed by the pandemic.
Alex White, head of marketing at The Tivoli, now run by The City Pub Group, said there have been staged soft launches, explaining: “On May 18 we opened our doors to our first guests, booked in for our practice sessions. We sent an invite to anyone who had signed up to our mailing list; they could then head over and enjoy our food, drink, shuffleboards and golf.
“It has been incredible seeing everyone enjoying the space. After years of planning, finally The Tivoli has been brought back to life.”
Ali Endres, general manager at The Tivoli, added: “After starting building works a number of years ago, it’s surreal but incredibly exciting to now be opening our doors.
“We think we’ve created something really fun, inclusive and engaging that Cambridge can hopefully be proud of. We’ve had incredible support and interest so far and the team here is doing a great job.”
