Students at St Mary’s School have achieved another year of impressive GCSE results, with 41 per cent of grades achieved at the top grades of 9 - 8.

This year’s results speak to the hard work and academic focus of students, the school says, as well as the expertise of the teaching staff. Impressively, some 76 per cent of grades were at 9-6 and 21 per cent of grades were at 9.

Head of Academic, Dr Paddy Wallace, said: “As our Year 11 students celebrate their well-deserved success, we are excited to see many of them continue their journey at St Mary’s Sixth Form where this year’s students achieved the best A-level results at A* and A since 2012.

“We wish our Year 11s all the best as they move forward, confident that their time at St Mary’s has equipped them with the skills and resilience needed to achieve their goals.”

Particularly noteworthy are the GCSE achievements in additional mathematics, music, and languages, along with excellent performances in the Higher Project Qualification which develops the crucial independent learning and research skills that are so highly prized at A-level study and beyond.

Year 11 student Charlotte Campbell said: “The school has helped me to achieve the grades I wanted. I’m looking forward to studying my A-levels here, to being nurtured and inspired and being encouraged to realise that I can do anything I put my mind to.”

Fellow student Carmella Caldwell added “The school fosters learning and for me, I have reached my potential because they made it exciting and enjoyable, and I had not felt this way about my education before I came to St Mary’s.”

New head Hannah Helliar said: “As head, I am incredibly proud of our 2024 GCSE students, whose outstanding results are a true reflection of their dedication to their studies. These achievements not only celebrate their hard work but also highlight the powerful impact of a girls' school environment, in which each student is empowered and encouraged to reach her fullest potential.

“Behind the statistics lie stories of wonderful individual success, sometimes in the face of significant challenges, and today has been one of joy, celebrating each and every one of those triumphs.”
