Cambridge jeweller Vanessa Burkitt says stunning stone is the only other one of its kind in the country

Catherine Jones Jewellery, in Cambridge, is selling something that might put a little sparkle into the festive season: a £40,000 3.19ct diamond from Botswana, similar to the one Prince Harry gave to Meghan Markle in her engagement ring.

Managing director Vanessa Burkitt scoured the world for the diamond and says it’s the only one of its kind in the country.

It will be on show at the Bridge Street jewellery store at the Cambridge Festive Fayre, taking place from 5-8pm on Wednesday December 6, when a wide range of discounts and samples from independent shops across the historic city centre will tempt shoppers.

Vanessa, who is hoping someone with deep pockets will be tempted by the diamond, said: “This oval stone is quite magnificent and is guaranteed to come from a Botswana mine.

“The merchant who found it for me has a paper trail of its authenticity. A stone with guaranteed provenance is incredibly rare. The merchant told me that this is the only one he has seen from Botswana.”

The stone will be sold mounted on a ring or as a pendant – and Vanessa is happy for there to be an auction.

“Anything above £1,000 more than the asking price will be divided equally between Prince Harry’s charity in Botswana and The Royal Anglian Regiment benevolent charity, which is my company’s chosen charity,” said Vanessa, whose store is also sponsoring projections on the Round Church and announcements about what’s on.

Stores throughout Bridge Street, Trinity Street, Green Street, Rose Crescent, All Saints Garden, Peas Hill, Bene’t Street, King’s Parade, Bridge Street and St Mary’s Passage are taking part in the Festive Fayre, with special offers, free samples, roast chestnuts, mince pies, mulled wine and entertainment.
