Grab yourself a pint and a pie at the 44th Cambridge beer festival
Why not sample the best in beer at the Cambridge beer fest?
The 44th Cambridge Beer Festival, the longest running CAMRA beer event and currently one of the largest of its type in the UK, will be held on Jesus Green in the city between May 22-27.
The festival features a wide range of beers of all styles from the UK and around the world, as well as cider, perry, mead and wine.
The Cambridge Beer Festival is organised and run by unpaid volunteers who get cheap beer and free food.
The festival is also famous for its CAMRA cheese counter, where a wide range of fine cheeses, together with locally produced bread, pork pies, ham and other savoury items are available.
“We don’t change much at the festival each year - people seem to like what we do,” explains Bert Kenward, Festival Organiser. “Last year we had a record breaking 41,000 people attend, and we’re hopeful the weather will hold up next week. However, even if it doesn’t, out massive marquees make sure that the beer is still available for all to enjoy.”
The theme this year will be the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the publication of John Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. The posters, promotion and limited edition beer glasses all follow this theme, and as always, are highly collectable.
The festival also has a foreign beers counter where you can try drinks from the other side of the Atlantic.
Entry is free between 12-3pm (Tuesday to Friday) with a £3 entry fee on Saturday (all day).
The festival is closed between Monday and Friday between 3-5pm.
Between 5-10pm Monday to Wednesday the entry price is £4 but £5 for Thursday and Friday. The last admission is half-an-hour before closing time.
The charity this year is Blue Smile which provides long term counselling and mentoring in schools for children aged three-13.
