Histon and Impington fireworks display called off for Saturday
Organisers have called off the Histon and Impington’s fireworks display due to take place on Saturday (November 2) due to high winds.
The committee met on Saturday and confirmed that it will be rescheduled for Saturday November 9 and issued details for ticket holders.
The display was due to be held on Impington Village College playing field from 7pm, with gates open from 6pm.
But the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind on Saturday.
It forecast “a very windy day for the south and east of England and south Wales Saturday with the chance of some disruption, mostly in the southwest”.
The warning noted:
“There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris as well as from large waves with beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
“There is a slight chance of some damage to trees and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.
“There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.
“There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.
“There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.”
On Saturday afternoon, the Met Office downgraded the warning, noting the high winds would end by 4pm, but the event was already cancelled by that stage.
Other displays are due to be held on Saturday November 2 in Cambourne, Hemingford, Sawston, Ely and Linton. Fire dancers are due to make an appearance at the Cambourne display.
Cambridge’s big display will be held on Tuesday, November 5.
