A youth football team is hoping to make sporting headlines after signing a sponsorship deal with the Cambridge Independent.

Histon Hornets Red U10s took to the field with the newspaper’s masthead emblazoned across their new kits for the first time on Saturday, when they played a home match against Mepal at the Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.

The Reds have been enjoying a good season in the Cambs Mini Soccer League, and have also progressed to the third round of the U10’s Knockout Cup.

Manager Marek Tabaczynski said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Cambridge Independent for very generously sponsoring a much-needed new kit for the team.

“It’s fantastic to have a local company supporting our community club and grassroots football. I’m sure all the boys will proudly wear their smart new kit when taking to field.”

Paul Brackley, editor of the Cambridge Independent, said: “As a community newspaper, we are very pleased to support the team and wish them all the best for the season.”
