The move follows a decision by Cambridgeshire County Council to cease non-essential works on road projects due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A statement from the Greater Cambridge Partnership said today: “Skanska is currently making the site safe for closing down later today.”

The GCP, which started work on the scheme last month, said it would provide further information on its website.

The project will create a new bus lane and improved walking and cycleways which the GCP says will help to cut congestion and improve air quality.

Histon Road was due to be closed to all inbound traffic after the completion of work by Highways England to junctions 32 and 33 of the A14, which was expected in May.
