Homebase confirms date for closure of Cambridge store
The Homebase store on Cambridge Retail Park is to close on 13 September.
The DIY and garden centre chain is holding a closing down sale.
A spokesperson for Homebase said: “We’re working closely with all our team members affected to support them in exploring opportunities within Homebase or elsewhere.”
The chain has closed scores of stores since Hilco bought it in 2018 for the nominal price of £1, following a disastrous spell under the ownership of Australian group Wesfarmers, which paid £340m for it in 2016.
Cambridge Retail Park, meanwhile, is undergoing a phased redevelopment, having been purchased for £100m in 2020 by railway pension fund investor Railpen, which is redeveloping the adjacent Beehive Centre in tandem.
However, the Cambridge Independent understands Homebase was welcome to stay under the redevelopment plans.
