House in Trumpington, Cambridge offers latest technology
This four-bedroom property, on the market with Prestige Property, features a customisable lighting system, driven by a tablet that further controls the integral multi-room multimedia system.
Incoprating the latest technology, this modern home boasts numerous outstanding features of note, including underfloor heating on the ground floor and in the bathrooms.
The open-plan ground floor is elegantly designed, while outside the rear garden and entertaining space is accessed via an expansive wall of bi-folding doors that lead out on to a paved area, as well as an area laid to lawn.
The rear garden is completely private and has a beautiful covered steel structure perfect for entertaining. Leading around the back of the property is a walkway which has an impressive Japanese water feature.
To the front is a block-paved parking area with a large two-car car port and further parking for up to three cars.
Linda Reed, of developers MR Construction, said: “The agent’s first impression was that it was truly one of the most impressive homes on the market at the moment and in such a desirable location.
“The plot came back to the market as a sale had fallen through, with full planning for a modest dwelling. We looked at the design and our architect felt we could do something more contemporary and exciting with it, which I feel he has overwhelmingly achieved.
“This beautiful house has many smart features, with its Rako lighting system and surround-sound music system, CCTV surveillance, alarms and secure automatic gates which link to phones. I feel this house would be wonderful for a consultant as it’s in close proximity to Addenbrooke’s hospital and the new Papworth hospital, and indeed the Cambridge Biomedical campus – or maybe it would work as a base for someone abroad needing to have access to Cambridge or London.”
Daniel Jones, a director at Irvine Jones Design, the architectural firm behind the project, recalled: “We were tasked by our client with the job of exploiting the site in Trumpington to its maximum commercial potential.
“This was given to us following the discovery that the previously approved scheme, a chalet-style house, suffered enormously from a lack of usable space within the first floor.
“We set about carrying out our site research to understand fully all of the site’s constraints and opportunities we could form. From our site observations we recognised that three sides of the plot had very different conditions that required different design responses.
“Fortunately, the site’s orientation, east to west on its long axis, lent itself to have the ground floor layout organised with the two main living spaces, kitchen and sitting room to be placed at opposite ends of the floor plan.
“With the insertion of floor-to-ceiling glazing in both spaces, they benefitted from an intentional flood of sun and natural daylight most of the day.
“Internally, we managed to place a staircase up against the lowest part of the roof and strategically orient it, with carefully articulation, and use the slope of the roof as a guide for placing it.
“The shift also enabled a double-height slot to be provided the full length of the building with remotely controlled skylight roof windows to provide additional natural daylight provision and stack effect natural ventilation.
“With the provision of a large first floor landing, four double bed-sized bedrooms – two with en-suite washroom facilities – this house has met the brief with great results and we are pleased with the end product.”
