Households in Linton and Willingham left without water as temperatures soar

Cambridge Water has repaired faults in Linton and Willingham, which led to some households having no water, or low pressure, amid soaring temperatures.

The water company issued an update just before 9pm on Thursday to Linton customers.

Some households have lost their water supply as temperatures hit 32C.

It said: “We’re aware of an issue in Linton, which is causing customers to experience low pressure or no water.

“We are in the area to investigate and aim to restore supplies as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have provided bottled water which can be found outside Linton Heights school on Wheatsheaf Way. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

At 5pm, it said it was “working to restore supplies to the affected properties as soon as possible”.

Then on Friday afternoon, Nathan Harper, head of network operations, at Cambridge Water, said: “We are sorry to customers in Linton whose water supply was disrupted yesterday, this was due to a burst main. We worked through the night to make the repairs, and water was restored to all customers early this morning. We delivered alternative water supplies to all properties that were affected. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Supplies were also affected in Willingham.

At 10.50am on Thursday, Cambridge Water said: “We're aware of an issue in Willingham, which is causing some customers to have no water.

“We are working to restore supplies to the affected properties as soon as possible.”

In an update, the company said the problem in Willingham was restored quickly.

Meanwhile, the company has yet to impose a hosepipe ban despite the drought conditions.

It has told customers: “Water supplies across the UK are under strain. We don't have a hosepipe ban in place, but we do ask that you use water wisely. Simple changes to your water use will have a big difference.”

The Met Office has an amber warning in place for extreme heat.

Temperatures reached 32C on Thursday and are expected to climb to 33C in Cambridge on Friday and Saturday.
