HRH Princess Anne unveils 13-metre long oak table at Ely Cathedral
Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited Ely Cathedral yesterday (Tuesday, May 17) to unveil a 13-metre long table created from a 5,000-year-old fossilised black oak tree.
The tree was found in a field at Wissington Fen in 2012, the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and will go on display from today (Wednesday, May 18) to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year.
Lesley Ann Thompson, director of communications and commerce at the cathedral, said it was a “very successful visit” and noted that Her Royal Highness was “clearly very interested in the black oak table and definitely had some lovely words to say about it. She really spent time talking to the craftsmen and students who had worked on the table.”
Her Royal Highness also visited Peterborough and Wisbech. The Jubilee Black Oak Table will be at Ely Cathedral until March 2023. Visit elycathedral.org.
