A 67 year-old man will spend three days and three nights sleeping on the streets to secure a seat for Carols at King’s – the annual Christmas Eve service at King’s College Chapel.

Musician Ian De Massini, who lives in Cambridge, has attended the service for 41 years. He was also a chorister at King's when he was teenager.

"It's a beautiful service - I just love the simplicity of the service. It sets me up for the new year,he said on Friday.

Ian, equipped with a sleeping bag as tents are not allowed, started queuing on Wednesday.

He was joined by some friends on Friday to form a nine-strong group at the front of the queue.

The group even booked a table at The Chop House opposite Kings six months in advance to ensure that could have dinner while watching over their places in the queue.
