In pictures: Men’s health the focus as gentlemen suit up for annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride
The gentlemen riders were out in all their finery at the weekend as the annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) took place in cities around the world – including Cambridge.
The ride – being held for the eighth time in Cambridge (it began as an event in 2012) – unites classic and vintage-style motorcycle riders to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health (approximately 75 per cent of suicides are male). On Sunday (May 21), 243 registered riders came together in the city, raising a total of £32,232 so far.
Edward Stow, lead organiser of the Cambridge ride, said: “We rode from the Hot Numbers Roastery down on the A10 and we finished up in Ely at the King’s School. It was a slightly longer ride this year; the practical reality was we weren’t really able to access the centre of Cambridge for a number of reasons – a combination of all the ongoing roadworks on the south side and then some of the new road layouts on the north, and the Milton Road work as well.
“It did mean that we rode through a couple of the villages north of Cambridge, and the reception was very positive – a lot of good commentary for it.”
