In pictures: Northstowe Running Festival is the biggest yet
Northstowe Running Festival, supported once again by the Cambridge Independent, returned with a range of races – and there were more competitors than ever.
A half-marathon, 10K, 5K and family mile took place on Saturday (September 2) in and around the new town, with longer courses heading out past some of neighbouring Longstanton’s landmarks into the countryside, before heading back to the finish line at Western Park.
Lizz Mayers, event manager, called the event “our most successful event so far, with nearly 700 people signing up, and over 600 attending to run in one of the races”.
She added: “It was the busiest for us so far. Thanks to generous support from Northstowe Town Council, Greenbelt Group, F45 Training, Phoenix Events East Ltd, Athletic Brewing Company and Ponnek, we were able to support three local charities: Care Network Cambridgeshire, Cam Sight, and children’s mental health charity Blue Smile, as well as local schools.
The total raised so far is over £6,500. “The event venue was buzzing, filled with multiple attractions for kids and families. Street food trucks and mobile bars attracted hundreds of spectators who also joined later to listen to the live performance by award-winning local artist Melody Causton on the Cambridge 105 Radio stage.
“We would like to thank our amazing volunteers and many local groups and partners; the event was a great demonstration of amazing community spirit and the real heart of Northstowe Town.” The date of next year’s event will be announced soon.
